A Mother Too Young

Bonnie (front) cuddling with her son Clyde

Bonnie was a mother too young. In fact, she was a mother too young...twice. When a caring family found 2-year old Bonnie in June, starving, frightened, covered in ticks, waiting with her son Clyde for death to come, they took immediate action.

They spent the next 48 hours removing ticks, bathing them, and coaxing food into these two terrified babies. They took them to the vet's office to be sure they were not carrying any illnesses that could be transmitted to their own 3 dogs (2 of which are rescues, as well).

Sadly, just a few weeks later, Bonnie gave birth to 4 puppies that didn't make it. She was just too sick and starving to have 4 more healthy babies. It was clear that these two starving, frightened dogs had not had an easy life before wandering into the lives of this caring family.

So, they were named Bonnie and Clyde, vaccinated, spayed and neutered, and given a bed, food, and lots of love. They are both housebroken. They do love to run when left together, but will stay on the property when the other dogs are around. They are just hoping for a second chance at a happy forever after.

Unfortunately, having 2 more dogs is more than this dedicated family can handle. Determined that Bonnie and Clyde will not end up in a kill shelter, the family is hoping to find homes for these babies. They don't have to be rehomed together and might do better separately.

This is how their temporary family describes them:

Clyde has issues with the dark, being alone and is strong-willed but does well one on one.  He is very laid back and rarely makes a sound. He does fine with other dogs. He is learning quickly and should be easy to work with in a new home.

Bonnie is sweet, loving and smart. She gets along with the family's Lab and two Chihuahuas wonderfully. The family just wants her to find a home that will give her the care and love she deserves.

If you are interested in providing one or both of these sweet babies a forever home where they will know the comfort and care they hadn't received in their first years of life, please email Vicky at vrobi1969@hotmail.com.

  1. UPDATE FROM BONNIE AND CLYDE'S FINDERS:

The original owner of these sweet babies has been found. They had been missing for quite some time and it turns out they are actually siblings instead of momma and son.

Clyde has returned to live with his original family (who was so happy to find them that they were in tears) and the family has agreed to let Bonnie stay with her finders. She is quite happy with Vicky and her husband and they were reluctant to part with her.

We are very excited to hear this happy ending and so thankful for special people like Vicky and her husband who will take in lost, starving, sickly babies, nurse them back to health, and wait patiently for them to find their way back home.

Happy forever after to Bonnie and Clyde!
