Special Rescue Case Update
Two years ago, we received a call to help a houseful of
animals whose owner was hospitalized and unable to care for them. Among the
many animals left alone in that house were 9 cats, 3 dogs, and many snakes and
turtles. Sadly, with our limited foster availability, we were unable to get the
animals into foster care right away. Volunteers stepped up to visit the house a
few times a day to care for the animals until other arrangements could be made.
It was a phenomenal example of what a community can accomplish. Within weeks,
other rescues began stepping in to help, as well.
The cats have each found their way into some lucky family’s
heart.
Pepper was among the first to be adopted.
Heather is a wonderful companion to an elderly woman who
simply adores her.
Tigger found his perfect forever family.
T.O. (a volunteer favorite) is still in foster care being
spoiled and loved. (I suspect that his foster family is just fine with him not
yet finding a forever home…)
Olive and KoKo, renamed Olivia and Lucky KoKo, found a
wonderful home together with their very own dog named Coco!
Freckles has a new best friend in a retired gentleman who
was happy for the companionship.
Precious went back to her mom where she is happy to be the
only cat and quite spoiled.
We are sad to report that Morris passed away recently after
a battle with cancer. But he was loved and cuddled in his final days and for
that we are grateful.
The snakes were rescued by Central Virginia Reptile Rescueand many were released to their natural habitats. Others that could not be
released now reside in a wildlife educational center where they help educate
the public on why not to keep native species as pets. The turtles were taken to
a reptile rehabber by Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator Gwenn Johnston. Gwenn
works for a local vet office and volunteers locally with Wildlife CareAlliance. She does a tremendous amount of work helping with local wildlife
rescue.
And the three dogs that were left behind are thriving in
their respective homes.
Max became a foster failure and is living happily on plenty
of land to run and play.
Susie, featured in our last newsletter, was adopted shortly
after its publication! We’re so excited for this sweet girl, as she is such a
gentle, loving soul.
Tila remains the final foster waiting from this group. She
is the beautiful Shar Pei mix that has the patience of a saint and so much love
to give. Who will be the lucky person that wins her heart and becomes the final
entry into this happily ever after rescue story?
